Cookie 5 App Reviews

Product OK - Poor Service

Cookie seems to work fine. However I would be more happy, if the Service Team would me more responsive.

Seems to work as promised

I’ve used Cookie 5 for a few weeks now. It seems to work as promised – all unwanted cookies & databases not previously selected as favorites are deleted upon quitting Safari or by clicking Remove Unwanted Data in the Cookie panel. This new version of Cookie has a convenient user interface with all controls accessible from a small MenuBar icon. The interface provides many options to customize removal of cookies, cache, databases, history, etc. I have used prior versions of Cookie since 2005 and what I like best about Cookie is the support – the developer is very helpful and he has promptly answered my emails whenever I’ve had a question. If only all apps worked this well...

Another failure by the Apple store morons

While I paid for this app, an upgrade from 4.5?, downloaded, and installed it, I can’t open it. The apple store keeps requiring me to log in and won’t “permit" the app to open. Why, because the ASSHOLES AT APPLE THINK THAT THEY OWN MY MAC. They have the audacity to contend that my 17” MBP 8.3 is a “different” computer because I opted to install two 1 T ssd’s in MY COMPUTER. I’m down $15 that I’ve been ripped off by some amoral morons as there is NO WAY TO GET A REFUND OR SPEAK TO ANYONE. My first apple product was an apple 2e in 83. I go back a while with them.

Essential App

Support this privacy app by paying for this upgrade. Author gives it TLC. No, I do not have any relationship with them.

They fixed it!

And it’s back to working wonderfully! This is truly a great program that really helps you manage cookies - especially tracking cookies.

Works !!!

Been using this app now for years and have contacted Russel several times with issues which have always been resolved speedily ( For the most part ) . The price has gone up but the app is worth it because Russel Grey supports it !!! 5.0.8 is working great for me , and data deletion is mostly complete now where it wasn’t before .

no longer have to worry if Google is looking over your shoulder

Just set up the sites you visit. Then set up time you would like all the non-favorites to disappear. So No more Google tracking

Loved previous version, deletedd this so called upgrade

Did not automatically import preferences from Cookie 4.5.5. After about 15 minutes of trying to figure out how to do it (no guidance from Cookie website), I went and read the reviews. Most talked about all the problems they were having with newer version. So I deleted the one I just paid $15 for and went back to the older one. Maybe in a few months they will have the bugs worked out, till then stay with tried and true!

Does what it says and is easy to use

This app does exactly what it says on the tin, and hasnt caused me any trouble. I had shell scripts to remove cookies and tracking data before, and of course ad blockers and such, but configuring exceptions was difficult. This app makes it very simple, albeit for a pretty high cost. I knocked off half a star because interaction with the app is very rarely required if you configure it to clear data on browser exit or periodically, and I wish it did not add yet another icon to my very crowded menubar. I knocked off another half because this was an expensive update to an app that, while adapted to the latest OS X framework and improved the design a bit, added no other value for me.

Still removing my favorites!

The current version STILL removes my favorites! This makes the application worthless. The current update notes say: “fixed an issue with favorites”, but apparently this does not refer to the bug related to deletion of favorites. This was a great application, and I’ve been waiting a very long time for a fix, but if you haven’t yet purchased Cookie, do not purchase it now. Wait until it is fixed!

Great app to help with online privacy

A few years ago I did some reserch when I was constantly seeing ads for things I had look at on other websites. I hated having all that info and more out there for anyone to view. After my research I choose Cookie and have been using it ever since. I love that every time I close my browser everything, except for one favorite website, is deleted. Each time I open my browser, its clean. No cookies, no cache, no form values, etc. Cookie makes it so easy to clean up everything without even thinking about it. I highly recomend Cookie for those concerned with online privacy.

Powerful & Easy Cookie management

Since Safari removed the ability to manage individual cookies, the current Safari option of either blowing out all your cookies or keeping all cookies—even tracking ones is not an acceptable one. So, I bought Cookie a feew versions back and can say that, of the 3 apps I’ve tried for Cookie management this one is the easiest top use and display more information on each cookie than others. It makes it easy to whitelist cookies & add sites to your “keep list.” I set it to remove non-favorites & tracking cookies every 15 minutes. This works great unless you are in the middle of a purchase on a new site and forget to pause the timer. So, operator error aside. The fact that it allows such fine grain control and switching from a menu item make this one a cut above the rest. If I had my wishes, I’d make the minimum window size about half its width since I’m on laptop & like to be able to see multiple windows at once to monitor new cookies. Also, it it would recognize Safari Technology Preview (which I just requested) it would be great. Edit: wow, I got a reply about the Safar Tech preview less than 10minutes after requesting it. It does support it, I just need to install a script.

Love this tool, one possible improvement...

There’s nothing I’ve found that’s better for managing cookies than Cookie 5. I’d rate it 5 stars in a heartbeat if it didn’t find it necessary to pop up its preferences panel after a sleep. Once I’ve set preferences, I’m happy to leave them alone until I decide to change them.

Does not remove cookies every 2 min like the previous version

I liked the previous UI better and it also removed cookies every 2 minutes as requested in the setup.

Brilliant!

I simply can’t imagine running a Mac online without Cookie 5.

Works as advertised with no fuss.

I have been using the previous version for quite some time, and this is a nice update. Just configure what cookies and local sorage items you want to keep and the app automatically removes the rest. I have it set to delete everything not whitelisted when I quit Safari or Chrome. Very responsive developer also. I had an issue issue with the old version when El Capitan first came out, and the devloper responded to my issue within one day and it was on a weekend.

Love the New Look!

Cookie 5 is a very nice, clean, streamlined update to a wonderful app which does a great job helping to keep unwanted website data off my MacBook Pro. I with I had Cookie 5 for my iOS devices!

Excellent, emerging tool for managing cookies

The new ver 5 app is excellent. It provides a very simple, clean way to manage all types of browser cookies. It is well designed and performs perfectly. I love the automatic timer feature. It does require routine maintenance — you have to keep your list of favorites up to date… which only makes sense. There is nothing else like this app. It needs good documentation - there is none. Some of the pref choices are intuitive for a fairly advanced user who is familiar with browser architecture and understands what cookies are. However, it does needs basic definitions and/or setup videos and guidance as to the impact of deleting things like tracking cookies from key websites you might rely on — like your bank.

A decent idea but not super effective

What I’d really like is a way to prevent cookies from being stored in the first place, but in lieu of that I’d settle for cookie removal, which is what Cookie 5 purports to offer. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to do it that well. To be fair, it mostly does what it claims, though for reasons that I do not understand it falls short. I’ve configured it to delete cookies and other data at a specified interval and it does keep the number of cookies down, but the number of stored cookies appear to rise ever so slowly and it simply will not delete the cookies that remain, whether I wait for the interval timer to fire or I tell it to delete them immediately. So yeah, not that great.
